Events and Activities

Each virtual events and activities have a monthly theme. For example, September’s theme is Substance Abuse Interventions and Community Mental Health Recovery. The dates and times of events may alter due to membership needs, and the particular academic calendar of Student Consult Group’s (SCG) Chapter. If this does occur, Chapter Leaders will notify Chapter Members directly.

The five activities that students will participate in are case consults, informational interviews, role playing, skill sharing, and networking.

SCG Activities and Events

Student Case Consults: In groups of three to four, students will be provided with cases and then asked to provide assessments and treatment plans based upon what they have read.

Informational Interviews: Local organizations and employees will be interviewed in order to gain deeper insight into the work being performed.

Role Playing: Students will be grouped into groups of three members and encouraged to practice skills such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, etc. One member will be the observer, the second member will be the client, and the third member will be the clinician. Students will be asked to either real play or role play during the activity.

Skill Sharing: Students will either share their own skill-sets to the group, share information about resources that they are familiar with, or they will be provided with special SCG tutorials.

Networking: All members will be encouraged to network with one another in the hopes of learning more about each other’s jobs and organizations. Many student members are active professionals in the field and so come with a wealth of knowledge.

Special Guest Presentations: Throughout the year, SCG strives to recruit field experts to virtually present on important topics within the field. If there is a speaker that you would like to see, please feel free to email the Board Chair, Salomé Valencia-Bohné.

Special Events: SCG encourages students to participate in local events happening on their campus or within the community. SCG advertises local training sessions, activities, and events that will further enhance students’ academic experiences.
